This simple mod edits helmets and face shields to cover all head hitboxes:
Face, Top of Head, Nape, Ears, Eyes, Jaws, Throat, and Back neck.

Overview

Enjoy the thrill of being able to peek your head out of cover without worrying about being one-shot in the face by a small caliber. Helmets now work with the rest of your gear as a vital piece of armor. The armor class difference between a SSh-68 (level 3) and a ULACH (level 4) will impact your raids.

This affects ALL helmets, including helmets worn by bots.

**PLEASE READ BEFORE INSTALLING:


All bots have their equipped helmets reduced down to 1 durability by default. This allows players to use small-caliber guns like SMGs and pistols while aiming for the head, as all headshots will almost immediately zero out any bot’s helmet.

You can change the above using the configuration file if you want enemy bots to have normal helmet durability. Just keep in mind that this will cause enemy bots to potentially become major threats.

Don’t expect pistols or SMGs to be viable for headshotting a PMC if you toggle this option to false. If your bots have face shields on top of a high-armor helmet, you’re honestly better off aiming for legs or arms unless you’re shooting with M993. Sounds silly, right?

Install

Extract directly into the SPT folder. Mod folder can be located in user/mods/.

Other Mods

I recommend using my other mods, Get Concussed and Clean Face Shields, to receive concussions/tinnitus when your helmet takes headshots and also clean up that visor.

Configuration

Edit config.json in the mod’s config folder:

“ModifyHelmets”: true, “ModifyFaceShields”: true, “ReduceBotHelmetDurability”: true For ModifyHelmets and ModifyFaceShields, set a desired value to false if you do not want helmets/face shields to be affected by this mod.

Set ReduceBotHelmetDurability to false to set bot helmet durabilities back to normal, if you want enemy bots to also benefit from the full head coverage granted by helmets.

Specifics

The armorColliders, Durability, MaxDurability, and armorClass are updated for all helmets. For example, the modified SSh-68 steel helmet (which has default 54 durability) is shown below:

  • Plate - Head top - 1/1
  • Plate - Nape - 1/1
  • Plate - Ears - 1/1
  • NEW PROTECTION: Face, Head top, Nape, Ears, Eyes, Jaws, Throat, Back neck - 51/51

In practice, the 51 durability is used for all head hitboxes and receives durability damage when shot at. You can safely ignore if any of the 1/1 plates are lowered to 0/1 since the 51/51 helmet durability acts as the ‘top layer’ and will be used to block bullets.

Face shields have also been buffed with +2 armor class, to keep them relevant with helmets.

New: Helmet protection will only benefit the player for those looking for an alternative mod to prevent headshot deaths while still maintaining usual game balance. Bots will have their helmet durabilities reduced down to 1 when they spawn into the raid.

Change ReduceBotHelmetDurability to false to disable this feature in config.json.

Changed how durability works to make it more readable: all helmet plates are now set to 1 max durability, meaning that the helmet’s total durability numbers will almost 100% accurately reflect how much full-head durability is left in the helmet.

(i.e. If a helmet has 100 durability and 3 plates, 97 out of the 100 durability will cover the entire head).

In line with moving back to vanilla durability numbers, face shields’ durabilities have been moved back to default numbers.

The changes will not apply to current helmets equipped.

You can make this mod work in 3.11 by going into user\mods\penguingreentea-fullhelmetcoverage and changing the package.json from “sptVersion”: “~3.10” to “sptVersion”: “~3.11”

I am pocking around and wonder if you can shed some light. For this line of code “for (const helmet of helmets)” can a constant be a specific helmet , lets say “helmet_altyn”? In such a case , chances of other “players” wearing the same are not really high. So right , just wondering. Thank you for the clear shield mod.

I’ve been using the mod extensively and have a few things to say.

Firstly, helmets might be a little too “good”, I’ve found myself tanking bullets of M995, I don’t think I’m ricocheting them since I don’t get concussed. I am using a class 4 helmet (TC-800 to be specific). I honestly quite like being able to tank a high pen bullet but I never get the concussion effect when tanking/ricocheting a bullet which would be nice, maybe theres a way to tweak the mod to re-enable that?

Lastly, I’ve seen AI tanking 3-4 buckshot shells, of course I know about the durability and how killing somebody with low penetration bullets needs the helmet to be zero’d, but would there be a way to give buckshot more power? Shotguns in my experience are only really effective when using flechette or APs.
Anyways, you’ve made a great mod and I really enjoy it.

Would there be a way to make it so the helmets only cover all head areas (including neck & excluding face) But have faceshields cover only the face?

you’ll have to change it yourself, but the code is pretty straightforward. in mod.ts, see the below:

//you can remove the entire following block to keep face shields default to protecting only HeadCommon, Eyes, and Jaw visor._props.armorColliders = [ “HeadCommon”, “ParietalHead”, “BackHead”, “Ears”, “Eyes”, “Jaw”, “NeckFront”, “NeckBack” ];If you don’t want face shields to receive ANY buffs, then there’s a config option where you can disable face shields from being modified by this mod.

ideally all of this should work, but you’ll have to test it

Okay, so forgive me for the dumb comment - so is the durability change just a numerical one or does it actually impact stopping power?

So, for example, if I get hit once in the head with a low caliber round- my helmet will have no more durability and be subject to a follow up headshot, if I understand the description correctly?

the durability number impacts stopping power - basically, if your helmet has 50 durability, then all of that durability (besides the 1/1 plates) will cover your entire head until the durability is zeroed.

that example you provided applies only for enemy bots by default, so if you shoot them in the face/head/neck/wherever with something like a pistol round, then they might tank one or two before their helmet’s zeroed out, and then they are subject to essentially death by headshot

when I launched my server with this installed I got some kind of error with conflicting IDs i’ll try and replicate it so I can post it in here for ya

thanks for the error log - I think it might be a mod conflict. I haven’t been able to recreate this on my end with an existing environment or a clean environment. I’m not familiar with parsing that line, are you running on fika? do you have any mods that add headwear?

yeah iv got a few mods that add gear/headwear and i’m also running fika. so it could be a conflict with that. iv got a fairly large modpack and this is the first error iv enounced in a while after spending months getting everything working together

I’m thinking that it might be one of the mods that adds in headwear that’s causing the error when used with my mod. If you can, can you send me the links to them and I’ll see if I can replicate the error on my end

for what it’s worth I’m experiencing the same issue, and I also have tactical gear component, update 15 backport, and less restricting headwear
